I'm looking for information about my great grandfather, Rafaele or Gabriele Gallo. On the manifests, it shows that he used the name Rafaele Gallo.
My great grandfather lived in Joliet, Illinois and area in the late 1800's and early 1900's. He was born in 1864 in Sicily, Italy. He travelled with Salvatore Lo Giudici to Joliet, Illinois by ship from Sicily. He settled in the Illinois area. Rafaele would have been 25 years old in 1889. My great grandfather liked living in Joliet and did not want to return to Sicily. I have manifests showing when his wife Liboria, and his son, Ignazio came to visit him.
My great grandfather never returned to Italy. He was married to Liboria Ciancimini (she was born in 1869 and died in Sicily in 1945). They had a son, Ignazio Gallo that visited his father on several occasions, and Ignazio spent about 7 years living with his father, and going to school. Ignazio finally went home to Sicily to be with his mother. Ignazio married my grandmother.
Rafaele Gallo is buried somewhere in Illinois and most likely died in the mid 1900's. I did find one grave with a death date of 1932 in Joiliet, Illinois.
If anyone has access to the U.S. documents, perhaps you can help me find more information on him while he was still alive. I know he worked in Joliet, Chicago, and even in Ohio. He worked on the railroad, and most likely in foundries. We have no idea if he ever remarried, or had children out of wedlock.
Is it easy to obtain a death certificate in the U.S.? Would it list any family members, and who buried him on the death certificate or how he died?
Thank you. Rose Gallo

Thank you for the information, Robert. Any idea of cause of death? Would they list this on the death certificate, I wonder? He seemed young to die at 56 years old.
I would love to see the photos of Liboria and Ignazio. My email is musiart4u@gmail.com.
Liboria Ciancimino was his wife, and Ignazio Gallo was his only living son. No one in the family knew about the still birth. (unless my older aunts did whom have now passed away). Luigia is a female name, so it would have been his daughter that was still born in 1898. And, Ribera, Sicily (Italy) not "Rivra" is the name of the city. Wow. I notice a lot of spelling mistakes in both personal names and city names.
I was fortunate to have met and spent time with my grandfather, Ignazio. He came to live (in the 1960's) with his daughter, my aunt Filippa in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada where I still live. I wish now that I would have asked my grandfather more about great grandfather's life.
Malcolm Schreiber has reached out to me and I do have some access to his family tree. As I still work full time, I find it difficult to find time to work on this. But, it is very important to me. My father is now 88 years old and since we don't live to far from Illinois, I wish to take him to Rafaele's burial place. I would also like to show my father some places where he lived while in Joliet.
Gabriele travelled from Italy to the U.S. with Salvatore Lo Giudici. On the ships manifest, they came over together. I would also like to do more research on him. They were cousins, I believe. They lived and worked together in Joliet. I wonder when he died and if he ever went back to Sicily.
I was given access to Malcolm Schreiber's ancestry but don't quite remember how to navigate the website. I will go in and try today. Thanks again, Robert.
